Samurai - NSPL Leg 6 Heavens Gate (Reading) Division 1- 11th March

Heavens Gate the highlight of the NSPL calendar proved to be as controversial as ever this year. Samurai turned up bright and early on Saturday ready for the 2 day event. Or in some cases not so ready...

With various team members having been working nightshift, a mugging and one still hungover - we weren't off to a great start, drawing the first game with Snatch and then losing to DeNovo. Samurai had to pick themselves up and start playing like we knew we could.

Winning the next game against Pompey Halloween, we then lost a very close game against Stealers AM and knew we had to win every game after lunch. We started out beating XM7, and then beat Cynergy Academy with 6 alive. Things were looking up...

We then played MK Storm and the controversy began. One of our players ran through the fifty and had a penalty pulled on him, however the ref pulled out an MK storm player for the penalty. Samurai then wrapped up the game, hung the flag. Game over, or so we thought. After the field ultimate had conferred off field with the event organiser we were made to replay the game as a 2 on 2. In the replay despite a player having a clear hit on his leg - he was allowed to play on without penalty.

As a team we were pretty shocked by the antics of the reffing, and very disappointed. On that note we played the last game of the day with our heads down and unsurprisingly lost. The entire squad was justifiably upset at the decisions made on the day and walked out of the event - a first for Samurai
